When you think about finnish people the first word would be probably “quiet”.  You may stand at the bus stop and ask a stranger how to get somewhere and they would say it like in two words and you may get  the feeling that your breath smells so they don’t want to talk to you, but it’s not true. Finns are often said to be very quiet and that’s mostly true. Finns don’t usually speak to strangers so that’s why we may be silent. But if you start talking to a finn I’m sure he won’t hesitate to talk with you. We’re a bit shy and we want some privacy. If you need something to break the ice you can try to speak finnish. But if you see that the one your talking to is not interested in talking right now you shouldn’t push him/her to it.
