Helsinki and its culture January 24, 2010

Helsinki is the capital of Finland and also the largest city in Finland. Its cultural varieties are admired all over the country.

In Helsinki there`s always something to do. There`s a good variation of sports places. You can either go doing something yourself or visit a sports event. For example ice hockey matches have usually great atmosphere, especially the weekend matches and the local matches between Jokerit and HIFK have one.

If you prefer other cultural events you can go see the opera, ballets, art museums (like Kiasma or Ateneum) or something like that. Helsinki is the cultural centre of Finland. In Helsinki there is also a good possibility to relax and just hang around in the city. Maybe you could go to Linnanmäki`s amusement park (Castlehill in English) which has many fabulous machines. There`s a bunch of sights for you to see, such as the Olympic stadium and its famous tower.

The drinking culture in Helsinki is in some places “Drink more, think less”-style, so it is good to be aware late at night. In Helsinki there are lots of fantastic bars and restaurants to visit, there`s a lot different beers for you to taste. For basic tourists there is also a lot of pizzerias, ethnic restaurants and of course McDonalds`s too.

Contents: Good
A nice general overview of different sights and other places to visit in Helsinki. Yet, since the topic is so broad (opera, movies, sports etc.), if you had stuck to your own favorite and least favprite places, the structure would have made more sense + your heading could have attracted more readers. Maybe hockey games are your favorite, but you didn’t bring forth your own thoughts at any point. Your English is quite fluent indeed 🙂

Media / appearance: Very good
Great videos and an extensive link list 🙂 However, when making a link, highlight the word(s) you want to become a link, then press Insert link and paste the address there.

Grammar: Very good
– cultural VARIETY IS, VARIETY OF sports places
– usually have a great atmosphere (SPOTPA!)
– rides = huvipuistolaitteet
– Olympic Stadium, Linnanmäki Amusement Park, the City of Helsinki (All the letters of a name are capitalized!)
– beware = varoa, be aware of = olla tietoinen jostakin
– there ARE also lotS of pizzerias

Your story is great and interesting even though I have always lived in Helsinki.

The structure is also clear and comprehensible.

You could have told a little more about your own thoughts and experiences about Helsinki. Maybe about some of your favourite places or something.. ?

I didn’t spot any mistakes so I think that the grammar is good.

The videos are cool and work well with your text. Also the links are good. 🙂
